Thank you for seeing us Brandon Johnson. What made you want to become a producer?<\/p>\n<\/div>

I’ve always loved films and stories, in all genres: adventure, thrillers, mysteries, comedy, horror, science fiction…<\/p>\n<\/div>

Why did you choose to produce The Chimera Effect and how did you finance the film?<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Chimera Effect features characters we can all identify with, as each relationship reminds me of someone who has been part of our lives. Similarly, having to deal with a loss in life and having the impression that certain things remain unanswered during this period of loss appeals to me.<\/p>\n

Fundraising efforts included meetings with potential investors who could see the angle from which the story could also become a financial success. I proved my vision, while taking a financial risk myself, to prove my seriousness to investors.<\/p>\n<\/div>

What role do you see independent producers playing in the global film market?<\/p>\n<\/div>

If you’re an independent producer and you think your project will only be of interest to one or two regions, this will limit your growth potential in terms of views and revenues. I’m no expert, but I think an independent film should be able to appeal to as many people as possible, all over the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>

What were the main challenges you faced in producing Carlos Butler’s film?<\/p>\n<\/div>

The list is long, but I’ll say camaraderie. A camaraderie where the whole team believes in the project. Some people take longer than others. Once you’ve found the ideal team and meeting point, the project takes shape. (Note, however, that some people will never capture your vision).<\/p>\n<\/div>

What is your vision of distribution? Do cinemas still count? Are we still making films for the “big screen”?<\/p>\n<\/div>

I think you always have to dream big and hope that your film will be noticed by the big distribution companies. Theaters will always count, whatever the size and scope of the project. The Chimera Effect looks great on the big screen – we’ve seen it on a big screen at a few festivals. But no, we don’t need the big screen to support our project. This project focuses on the characters and the construction of who they are and what they experience. And, yes, great stunts and sci-fi worlds need to be seen on the big screen because it’s an experience in itself.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Do you have any models?<\/p>\n<\/div>

Absolutely. Our respective idols lead the way and give each of us a kind of blueprint. Spike Lee, Viola Davis, Tyler Perry, Denis Villeneuve, Denzel Washington, Jen Knox, to name but a few.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Any advice for up-and-coming independent producers?<\/p>\n<\/div>

Have a PLAN while working on that plan and remaining open and flexible. The best idea always wins; and leave your ego at the door. Find camaraderie and never give up. A project is NEVER finished when you’re an independent producer.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Briefly describe your vision of post-covid cinema. Do you think there will be any notable changes?<\/p>\n<\/div>

Business models will have to change. Is this a theatrical project or a streaming project? Use your creativity to get your project into theaters, because that’s the whole point.<\/p>\n<\/div>
